Privacy
The short version. The plans you build never leave your browser. There is no account, no bank linking, and no server holding your financial details. What is collected is ordinary anonymous web analytics: which pages get opened, on what kind of device. No dollar amounts, no account balances, no birth dates, no plan names.
Your plan data
Everything you enter into the forecaster is stored in your own browser, on your own device, using the browser's built-in local storage. It is not transmitted anywhere. There is no copy on a server, which means there is nothing for us to look at, nothing to leak in a breach, and nothing to hand over if someone asked.
Two things are stored locally:
- Your plans. Household details, account balances, income, expenses, liabilities, and assumptions.
- Preferences for this browser. Your color theme, which demo plans you have hidden, and which plan and tab you had open last.
Forecast Your Money never asks for bank credentials and cannot connect to your financial accounts. There is no account aggregation, and no integration with any institution.
The flip side of local storage. Because your plans live only in this browser, clearing your browsing data, switching browsers, or moving to another device means they will not be there. There is no export yet, and no backup we can restore from. Keep your own record of anything you would be upset to lose.
What is collected
The site uses Google Analytics to understand how it is being used: which pages people read, and what kind of device they are on. Nothing you type into a plan is sent anywhere.
Google Analytics sets cookies so it can tell one visit from another. Blocking them does not affect the forecaster in any way. There is currently no consent banner; if that needs to change, this page will change with it.
The host keeps ordinary web-server logs of requests, as is standard for any website.
If you write to the feedback address, that email sits in an inbox like any other. It is used to reply to you and to fix what you reported. It is not added to a mailing list.
If sync is ever offered
Signing in and syncing across devices is something people might ask for, and it may be built. If it is, three things will hold: it will be opt-in, it will ask for your consent separately and specifically, and using Forecast Your Money anonymously with everything staying on your own device will remain fully supported. This page will be updated if that ever ships.
Your controls
- To delete your plans: clear this site's data in your browser settings. That removes everything, immediately and permanently.
- To avoid analytics: use a browser or extension that blocks it. Everything keeps working.
- To stay anonymous: do nothing. There is no account, so there is no identity attached to your use of the forecaster.
Changes to this page
If what is collected changes, this page changes first, and the date below is updated. This software is still under development; questions and corrections are welcome at feedback@ForecastYourMoney.com.
